In a world where talent knows no boundaries, one young boy from Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, has captured hearts far and wide. At the tender age of thirteen, Andrea Sibanda, known as Andrea “The Vocalist,” catapulted into the spotlight through an unexpected turn of events.
Andrea’s journey to stardom began when a video of his soul-stirring rendition of an old church song, “Ndodana,” went viral on TikTok. The world took notice, and South African music sensation Aubrey Qwana expressed his desire to collaborate. However, finding Andrea proved to be a challenge.
Enter Tendai Joe, a Zimbabwean-born artist manager and record label owner based in South Africa. His mission: to ensure that Andrea’s exceptional talent received the recognition it deserved. With the help of journalist Plot Mhako and Tinashe Skhosana, who was working at BreezeFM in Victoria Falls at the time, Andrea was located.
The result of this collaboration was the hit track “Uhambo,” which gained massive popularity and was released under Tendai Joe’s record label. Crucially, Andrea retains all the rights to this song, ensuring his artistic independence.
While Andrea’s journey appears heartwarming and smooth, it hasn’t been without its challenges. As a minor from a disadvantaged background, managing his career extends beyond the music industry. Tendai Joe acknowledges the need for additional resources to support Andrea and his family, essentially becoming their caretaker.
Public perception has also placed undue pressure on Andrea. Many expect him to lead a lavish lifestyle due to his musical success. However, Andrea’s youth and responsibilities as a breadwinner for his family necessitate a balanced approach to his career.
Fortunately, Andrea’s management has secured an education sponsor, ensuring his academic pursuits are not compromised. Music remains an extracurricular activity, similar to sports, with a potential career path, and as long as it doesn’t interfere with his studies, it’s deemed acceptable.
In 2022, Andrea made a significant impact at the Bulawayo Arts Awards, earning nominations for “Outstanding Song of the Year” and “Best Newcomer.” He clinched the latter and delivered a mesmerizing performance. Proceeds from his award winnings enabled him to record his latest hit, “Lizombona,” in Eswatini, collaborating with renowned artists from the kingdom.
With at least five songs ready for release, Andrea is poised to unveil an EP or album in the near future. His management envisions him becoming a household name with a global audience, a dream already taking shape as his latest release gains traction in Zambia and Malawi.
The future holds boundless possibilities for Andrea “The Vocalist,” a young talent whose voice has resonated far beyond his hometown, Victoria Falls.
