London, (SAT Sports) – South Africa’s national men’s cricket team will travel to Ireland for their first full limited-overs tour of the European nation in July.
The tour, which will run from July 11-25, will feature three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and as many T20Is being played in Malahide and Stormont. The ODIs will contribute towards the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup Super League (CWCSL) programme.
This will be the first time South Africa will tour Ireland for more than just one game. Their only other visit was in June 2007 when they played an ODI in Belfast.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) Director of Cricket Graeme Smith welcomed the confirmation of the tour in addition to thanking Cricket Ireland for “their cooperation and willingness to adapt the tour schedule”.
“The tour marks a significant new chapter in our history as we visit one of the fast-developing cricket nations for a six-match tour,” Smith said.
“Ireland have showed themselves to be highly competitive adversaries in recent years, with growing profile in the world game. It will also offer our players further international action in unfamiliar conditions, so we are looking forward to the contest.”
The announcement is good news for CSA which recently had to contend with the sudden withdrawal of Australia from a tour of South Africa due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Proteas just completed a tour of Pakistan where they lost both the ODI and T20I series.
