National Building Society celebrates 10 year anniversary of banking prowess

National Building Society celebrates 10 year anniversary of banking prowess

Zimbabwe’s National Building Society marked a decade of operation with a carefully staged Golf Day and evening cocktail in Harare, bringing together stakeholders, clients, policymakers and partners in a setting that blended reflection with quiet ambition.

The event, which unfolded across the fairways before transitioning into a more formal evening reception, was less about spectacle and more about signalling. Ten years into its journey, National Building Society used the occasion to reinforce its position as a financial institution shaped as much by relationships as by balance sheets.

On the course, conversation moved as easily as competition. Business leaders and clients shared space not simply as participants in a sporting event, but as contributors to a broader institutional story, one anchored in housing delivery and financial inclusion. The tone was measured but confident, reflective of an organisation that has grown steadily within Zimbabwe’s evolving financial landscape.

The NBS@10 Golf Day was a platform for connection and reinforcing the relationships that have underpinned the institution’s growth over the past decade.

As daylight receded, the gathering shifted into an evening cocktail where the focus turned more explicitly to legacy and direction. Managing Director Mr Sifiso Mahlangu framed the milestone not as an endpoint, but as a continuation of a collective journey.

“Today wasn’t just about the golf, it was about connection, camaraderie, and celebrating the journey we’ve shared. As we mark 10 years of NBS, it’s a reminder that what truly matters are the relationships we’ve built, the partnerships, the conversations, and the shared moments that continue to strengthen us.”

His remarks underscored a philosophy that has come to define the institution’s identity, one that places equal weight on service delivery and stakeholder engagement. The emphasis on connection spoke to a broader understanding of banking not merely as a transactional function, but as a social and economic enabler.

Representing the Board, Sithokozile T. Mrewa delivered remarks on behalf of Chairman Mr Shingai Mutumbwa, situating the anniversary within a longer institutional arc shaped by purpose and collaboration.

“Tonight, we celebrate more than just a milestone, we celebrate a journey defined by purpose, partnership, and progress. The success of today’s golf event reflects the strength of the relationships we have built, relationships grounded in trust, collaboration, and community.”

Her reflections traced the organisation’s evolution from an ambitious entrant seeking to redefine aspects of Zimbabwe’s banking experience, to a more established player contributing to housing access and financial inclusion. Yet even within that narrative of growth, there was a deliberate insistence on forward momentum.

“Through your support, we have grown into more than a bank we have become a partner in your progress. Yet even as we celebrate, we do so with our eyes firmly set on the future. In many ways, our journey is only just beginning.”

The language of partnership and progress echoed throughout the evening, reinforcing an institutional identity built around continuity rather than disruption. National Building Society’s guiding ethos to bank, build, and go beyond was not presented as slogan, but as a framework through which it interprets its role within Zimbabwe’s economy.

In a sector often defined by volatility and shifting public confidence, the symbolism of a ten year milestone carries weight. It speaks to durability, to institutional discipline, and to the ability to navigate a complex operating environment without losing strategic focus.

The anniversary event ultimately functioned as both celebration and statement. It acknowledged a decade of measured growth while signalling an intention to deepen impact in the years ahead. In doing so, National Building Society positioned itself not only as a financial intermediary, but as a participant in Zimbabwe’s broader development narrative, one relationship at a time.
