With just over three weeks remaining until the much-anticipated African Caribbean Sustainability & Investment Summit (ACSIS) 2024, preparations are in full swing for what is expected to be a landmark event in strengthening sustainable trade and investment ties between Africa, the Caribbean, and the United Kingdom. Scheduled for November 21-23, 2024, in London, the summit is already generating considerable attention as a key gathering of diaspora leaders and stakeholders committed to advancing sustainable development across these regions.
Organized by HenleyCaribbean Sustainable Ventures, ACSIS 2024 will operate under the theme: “Leveraging the African, Caribbean and UK Business Opportunities: Investing in a Sustainable Future.” The event’s agenda will cover four essential sectors: Agriculture & Agri-Business, Climate Change & Renewable Energy, ICT, Digital Economy & Cybersecurity, and Tourism. These sectors are pivotal for building resilience, promoting sustainable growth, and fostering collaboration in impactful ways.
Among the distinguished speakers at this year’s summit is High Commissioner Karen-Mae Hill of Antigua and Barbuda. With over 15 years of experience in banking, financial services, and law, High Commissioner Hill has consistently advocated for small island states on issues related to financial regulation, trade, and the blue economy. Known for her social focus on youth empowerment and support for persons with disabilities, her remarks at the summit are anticipated to highlight the essential role of sustainable investments and strategic partnerships in addressing the unique vulnerabilities of smaller economies. Her leadership will provide invaluable insights into how Caribbean nations can leverage international collaborations to achieve economic resilience.
In addition to her role as Antigua and Barbuda’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, High Commissioner Hill serves as the non-resident ambassador to Ireland, Germany, Estonia, and Lithuania. Her extensive diplomatic experience will offer attendees a perspective that combines regional focus with global outreach, underscoring the importance of inclusive growth and sustainable investment.
The summit will feature an array of discussions, roundtables, and workshops where High Commissioner Hill and other prominent leaders will engage with UK-based entrepreneurs with African and Caribbean heritage, including representatives from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Rwanda, Saint Lucia, and Jamaica. These sessions will provide a platform to share best practices and sustainable investment strategies, while empowering participants to cultivate stronger economic links and sustainable development practices within their home countries and the diaspora.
With the countdown now underway, ACSIS 2024 promises to be a pivotal event, and High Commissioner Hill’s contributions will bring a critical perspective to the summit’s vision of investing in a sustainable future. Her presence ensures that the specific needs and strengths of small states will be integral to this global dialogue on sustainable trade and investment.
