Ethiopian Airlines has announced a significant revenue increase for the fiscal year 2023/2024, with earnings reaching $7.02 billion. This marks a 14% rise compared to the previous fiscal year, as revealed by the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Mesfin Tasew, during a press briefing on Monday.
Tasew highlighted that the airline achieved 577,746 flight hours over the fiscal period, a 19% increase from the prior year. Despite facing challenges such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Sudan conflict, and rising fuel prices, Ethiopian Airlines demonstrated strong financial performance.
The airline transported a total of 17.1 million passengers, including 13.4 million international travelers, and carried 754,681 tonnes of cargo. The fleet was bolstered by the introduction of five new passenger aircraft, bringing the total to 145.
Ethiopian Airlines also expanded its network by adding five new international and three new domestic destinations, resulting in a comprehensive network of 139 international and 21 domestic destinations, excluding Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
Tasew emphasised that these achievements are in line with Ethiopian Airlines’ 2035 growth strategy. Looking ahead, the airline plans to focus on expanding its network, developing infrastructure, and enhancing human capital to strengthen its global competitive position.
