Zimbabwe Capital Markets and Investment Promotion Conference Oversubscribed in London

The Zimbabwe Capital Markets and Investment Promotion Conference, recently held in London, attracted overwhelming interest and attendance, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to attract global investment. The event, hosted at the prestigious Congress Centre, witnessed an exceptional turnout of participants, reflecting robust international confidence in Zimbabwe’s economic potential.

The conference was spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, in collaboration with the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange and Financial Markets Indaba. The Zimbabwe Embassy in London also played a crucial role in the event, which aimed to showcase investment opportunities across various sectors, including mining, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure.

High-level representation from the Zimbabwean government and senior executives was a notable feature, with key figures including:

  • Ambassador Colonel (Rtd) Christian Katsande, Zimbabwe Embassy in London
  • Honourable Professor Mthuli Ncube, Minister of Finance and Economic Development
  • Mr Willard Manungo, Deputy Chief Secretary, Policy Analysis, Coordination, and Development Planning in the Office of the President and Cabinet
  • Dr Engineer Gloria Magombo, Permanent Secretary for Energy and Power Development
  • Mr Pfungwa Kunaka, Permanent Secretary for Mines and Mining Development
  • Mrs Judith Rusike, Financial Sector Policy, Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion
  • Mr Matthew Sangu, Acting Director, Investments, Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion
  • Mrs G. Muzondo, Revenue and Tax Policy, Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion
  • Mr Isaac Kwesu, Chief Executive Officer, Zimbabwe Chamber of Mines
  • Mr Tafadzwa Chinamo, CEO, Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency
  • Mr Anymore Taruvinga, CEO, Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe
  • Mr Justin Bgoni, CEO, Victoria Falls Stock Exchange

The delegation provided in-depth insights into Zimbabwe’s strategic economic reforms and growth prospects. The conference featured a series of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and networking sessions designed to foster dialogue between Zimbabwean officials and international investors. Topics covered included the stabilisation of Zimbabwe’s macroeconomic environment, advancements in policy reforms, and opportunities within the capital markets. A highlight of the event was the unveiling of several new investment projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business in Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) and the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX) also presented updates on their latest developments and investment opportunities, drawing significant interest from potential investors. Minister Ncube emphasised the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for foreign investment, stating, “Zimbabwe is open for business, and we are committed to implementing policies that support sustainable economic growth and investment. The turnout and enthusiasm at this conference are clear indicators of the global community’s confidence in Zimbabwe’s market potential.”

Participants lauded the conference for its organisation and the quality of information shared. Building on the success of the first Zimbabwe Capital Markets and Investment Promotion Conference held in London in 2023 and subsequent events in Beijing, Shanghai, and Johannesburg this year, the investment roadshows have set a positive tone for future engagements, underscoring Zimbabwe’s position as an emerging market with substantial growth potential.

The global award-winning investment conferencing platform, Financial Markets Indaba, aims to mobilise investment by convening leading global institutional investors, corporate leaders, industry experts, and the diaspora to explore sector and market trends and identify significant investment opportunities. Through thought leadership, productive exchange of ideas, and sharing practices, delegates and participants discussed how to integrate and align the regulatory framework with new strategies, business models, financial measures, and investment decisions. Financial Markets Indaba is a unit of Emergent Capital Management (ECM), which is celebrating a decade of excellence and leadership in capital raising, investments, and advisory services, marking ten years of delivering innovative financial solutions and establishing a trusted reputation in the industry.
