Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support for the African peace initiative on Ukraine during the closing session of the Russia-Africa Forum in St. Petersburg. He also commended China’s efforts to find a resolution to the conflict.
During the forum, President Putin highlighted that the African peace initiative, along with other initiatives, could serve as a basis for peace-seeking processes. He stressed that these initiatives do not intend to contradict or compete with each other but rather aim to explore opportunities for defusing the tension between Russia and Ukraine.
The discussions with African leaders were described as extensive and fruitful, lasting approximately an hour and a half. All participants had the opportunity to share their perspectives on the matter, fostering a friendly atmosphere conducive to exploring viable solutions.
In response to a query about his absence from the upcoming BRICS forum in South Africa, President Putin brushed it aside, stating that his presence at the summit is irrelevant. He did not mention the arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court.
The statements made by President Putin at the Russia-Africa Forum signify the ongoing engagement of various stakeholders in finding peaceful avenues to address the Ukraine crisis, thereby contributing to regional stability and cooperation.
