BlackBerry Joins Cybertech Africa to Boost Cybersecurity in the Region

BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB; TSX: BB), a global leader in cybersecurity and AI-powered solutions, has announced its participation in a groundbreaking event, Cybertech Africa, to be held in Rwanda from August 1-2. This first-of-its-kind assembly in Africa aims to unite government officials and technology leaders in a collective effort to bolster cybersecurity across the continent.

As cyber threats continue to escalate in Africa, the need for robust cybersecurity measures has become paramount for the region’s digital transformation. With Rwanda at the forefront of this technological shift, the country’s government and enterprise leaders will convene with BlackBerry to navigate the complexities of the cyber landscape and foster innovation in cybersecurity through public-private partnerships.

Neelam Sandhu, Chief Elite Customer Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and Head of Sustainability at BlackBerry, expressed the company’s excitement to collaborate with African governments and enterprises in driving crucial conversations about cybersecurity in the region. She highlighted that as Africa embraces digital transformation, cybersecurity will serve as the critical springboard for success. To achieve this, the cooperation between the private and public sectors will play a vital role in enhancing collective resilience in the digital era.

BlackBerry, renowned for its pioneering role in AI-powered cybersecurity, is trusted by governments and enterprises globally to safeguard their digital operations. With over half a billion endpoints protected by BlackBerry software, the company’s clientele includes 17 of the G20 governments, major players in the automotive industry, medical device manufacturers, and the world’s largest banks.

H.E. Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT and Innovation in the Government of Rwanda, lauded BlackBerry’s participation in Cybertech Africa, emphasizing the pivotal role of technology companies and cutting-edge technologies in Africa’s efforts to enhance cybersecurity and promote economic growth.

Having been a valued partner to Africa since sparking a mobile-first revolution, BlackBerry recognizes the continent’s significance in the world’s digital future and cyber resilience. Rwanda, in particular, stands out as one of the most innovative countries in Africa, actively driving the region’s digital transformation and cybersecurity ecosystem. The nation’s forward-looking digital policies include the development of a National AI Policy by the Ministry of ICT. Additionally, Rwanda’s GDP growth has reached an all-time high of $13 billion in 2022, underscoring its potential and importance on the global stage.

With a commitment to partnering with governments and enterprises worldwide, BlackBerry leverages its leadership in Internet of Things (IoT) and cybersecurity software to build a sustainable and secure world for all.

The Cybertech Africa event is set to become a significant platform for key players in Africa’s cybersecurity landscape to collaborate and address the growing cyber challenges facing the continent. Through this gathering, BlackBerry and its partners aspire to bolster Africa’s cyber resilience, contributing to a safer and more connected future.
