Skukuza, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa – The 10th meeting of the BRICS ministers of education concluded successfully on Thursday in Skukuza, South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province. The gathering brought together ministers and delegates from all five BRICS countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, with Namibia also present as an invited special guest country.
During the meeting, the education ministers highlighted the need for prioritizing eight key thematic areas. Topping the list was the development of skills required in an ever-changing world, with a particular emphasis on digital education cooperation and the mutual recognition of qualifications. A statement released on Thursday outlined the outcomes of the meeting and stressed the commitment of the BRICS countries to delivering responsive and relevant programs for out-of-school youth, ensuring their employability, and facilitating their integration into labor markets.
Moreover, the BRICS nations expressed their determination to enhance the quality of education and strengthen international cooperation in higher education and training. A key component of this objective is the mutual recognition of qualifications, aligning with the Global Education 2030 Agenda. The ministers recognized the importance of harmonizing educational standards across borders and facilitating student mobility within the BRICS framework.
The BRICS bloc, composed of five emerging economies, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, plays a crucial role in shaping global economic and political landscapes. With South Africa assuming the BRICS presidency from China on January 1, 2023, this meeting marked an important milestone in further strengthening cooperation among member countries in the field of education.
